Chocolate Baroque: We Will Remember Them

Hello there! It's an Art Journal show-and-tell today.  We are almost at the end of October and while a Halloween project would be the obvious choice, I decided to hop off the bandwagon and pursue a different theme. Looking ahead to November ( which is a little over a week away - eeeek!),  I decided to play with the Pretty Poppies stamp sheet to create a Remembrance Day inspired page.

I used acrylic paints for the background. Pale blue washed down with gesso and pale green for the field. It's a simple page, no unnecessary embellishments, textures or distractions. Tranquility. Just a field of red poppies against a clear blue sky with little white clouds. A telling contrast... lest we forget the price of peace.

When the background is completely dry, I stamped the poppies directly on the page with Versafine Vintage Sepia. I coloured the stems and leaves with Copics and Faber Castel Brush Markers. Then I stamped the poppies and buds separately, coloured and fussy cut them before adhering them to the page using Ranger Multi Medium Matte. I added a tiny touch of Wink of  Stella Clear to each poppy.

I wanted the poppies to look like they are swaying gently in the breeze. So I added a small piece o foam tape in the middle to the flowers before adhering the cut-out poppies. I did the same for the poppy buds too and added a dollop of Ranger Glossy Accents to give a rounded edge.

For the quote, I used Echo Park Allison alpha stamps and Ranger Archival Black ink. I added Nuvo Crystal Drops in Duck Egg, falling from the sky - the young men who fell to bring peace. The droplets blend into the sky beautifully, so I adjusted the lighting to be able to photograph it.

The quote is the last line of the 4th stanza of Laurence Binyon's poem "For The Fallen":

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Hello again, friends! It's time for another challenge over at Addicted To Stamps and More.  For this challenge, you can create anything you like - card, tag, bookmark etc - as long as it is CAS.
If the concept of CAS eludes you (as it does for me!), here's a checklist to help you:

Tuesday Throwdown #364: Stencilling

Good morning, friends! Time for another new challenge over at Tuesday Throwdown. This week we have an easy theme for you: "Stencilling". All you have to do is a stencil (or several stencils) in the design process of your project. Our sponsor for this challenge is Sprinkle and Sparkle. Their online store is overflowing with crafty goodness.

My project features this beautiful festive image called Christmas Spirit Fairy. In keeping with falling snowflakes of the image, I used MFT's Falling Snow to create a snowy background directly on the card base. First I inked the stencil with Broken China DI and again with Ranger Texture Paste coloured with a tiny drop of Shaded Lilac DI. To finish the card I added Orchid Lawn Trimming by Lawn Fawn.

Here's a closer look at the fairy. I coloured her with Faber Castell Polychromos and added extra sparkle with Stardust Stickles, Wink of Stella Clear and Nuvo Crystal Drops. Too much? No way!  Not enough, I'd say!

Now it's your turn to create a project based on this week's theme: "Stencilling". For ideas and inspiration, take a peek at what the rest of the DT members have made. Remember to link up your project at the Tuesday Throwdown Challenge Blog by 3pm Pacific / 11pm UK on Monday, October 16th. And the most important requirement: Have Fun!

Thank you so much for stopping by and have an amazing day!

Chocolate Baroque: Birthday Greeting

Good morning, friends! Brand new day and a brand new project. I've used the skinny trees from the Fantasy Woodland A4 sheet to create a birthday card. The greeting is from the Birthday Words A5 sheet.

I heat embossed the trees with WOW Ebony Embossing Powder and then created the background by blending various Distress Inks. For the sky I used Blueprint Sketch, Salty Ocean, Broken China and a touch of Abandoned Coral. For the ground I used Brushed Corduroy, Bundled Sage, Mowed Lawn and Crushed Olive. I masked out the moon and then applied Squeezed Lemonade, Fossilised Amber and added definition with Faber-Castell Polychromos. To add interest to the sky I added little white dots with a White Sharpie and droplets of Nuvo Glitter Drops White Blizzard.

I stamped the greeting with VersaFine Majestic Blue.

That's all from me today, friends!  Thank you so much for stopping by and have an amazing Sunday.
