Under the Christmas tree...

Hello there! I hope all our American friends are safe. From the comfort of our home we turned on the telly and watched with shock and horror at the devastation brought on by Sandy. Quite scary actually..and certainly put all my whinging about the rain into perspective!

I wasn't planning on posting anything today but a few challenges caught my eye... and I had the right card tucked away... Remember the Bendy Christmas Tree card? I made another centre step card at the time using an adorable stamp from Chocolate Baroque's "Gift Of Christmas" set. The card made me a little sad, so I put it away. But today is the day to bring it out.

The challenges for this card are Holy Jolly Christmas "O Christmas Tree", Joanna Sheen "Silhouettes",   Crafty Sentiments "Seeing Stars", Paper Pretties Monday Challenge #63 "Bling" and Christmas Card Challenge #48 "Pop It Up".

Here's take 2 of my centre step card:

The patterned paper is from Papermania's "Home for Christmas" 6x6 pad.

For the central panel I ran some cream CS through my Big Shot with the Swiss Dots embossing folder. And for some shiny sparkle I put a little Diamond Stickles on the raised dots.

This silhouette stamp is from Chocolate Baroque's "Gift of Christmas" set. I bought it from Joanna Sheen and I'm chuffed to be able to use it on her challenge blog.  I stamped it with Memento Tuxedo Black, coloured with SN markers and fussy cut it. That dog looks exactly like our oldest fella André and the cat is a spitting image of our dearly departed Xiara. So many Christmases I've caught them in this position but never had the presence of mind to take a picture. It sure brings back bitter sweet memories.
I went totally mad with the red bling...it is Christmas after all! The golden star is resting on pop dots.
Here's the inside. This sentiment is from WMS "Seasons of Love - Tags" set.

Thanks for stopping by. Back to work now...a gazillion things to get done. Tonight I have choir practice. We're preparing for a Christmas concert and I fear we have much work ahead of us!

Take care and stay warm y'all!

Merry Mojo

It's Monday and what I enjoy most about the day is playing MojoMonday. I've got a strange addiction to this challenge. Probably because it's my very first blog challenge. But most likely because it offers a most welcome distraction to my Monday mayhem...any excuse to get crafty.

Of course copious amounts of caffeine is keeping my peppy today, but also I have decided, at last, to abandon my inner-shaman and seek proper medical counsel. After a weekend of antibiotics and some surprisingly delicious potions, I can breathe again. Sadly, today I smell rain! Urgh! When will it end, I ask ya?!

Ok, enough about the weather, let me sow you what I made. As expected, the sketch is from MojoModay #265... I'm unashamedly Square this week. The colours are from CR84FN#66  and design inspiration from 52 Christmas Card Throwdown Oct Embellishment Challenge #10 "Die-cuts / Punched Pieces".

And my card looks like this:

Just one piece of patterned paper from Papermania's Liquorice & Sherbert pad - wintery twigs in gray.
I made a window card and stamped the sentiment on the inside.
For the frames I used Nellie Snellen's Multi-Frame Dies "Square Stitching".
A nice big sheer cream bow completes the show. It's actually quite simple card... but I won't go so far as to call it CAS! (*nudge**wink*  Sandie)

Here's the sentiment that I stamped on the inside. Its from WMS "Seasons of Love - Tags" stamped in Memento "London Fog", which, looking out my window, should be renamed "Lisbon Fog". And oh, before I forget, 2 gray pearls  on the flourishes.

So there you have it - my simple non-traditional Christmas card. Thanks for dropping in. Have a great Monday, stay warm and dry and I'll see you soon!

Jolly Holly Day

Hello again, my friends! Just popping in with a quick post to show you a card I made yesterday. I really didn't feel up to spending much time on the computer these past few days, what with my sinusitis and achy bones...my usual geriatric fun and games when the days get shorter and colder. Conan, the husband, added cranky and grouchy to my list of ailments before making a swift exit from my presence. Quite rightly so,  since I happened to be wielding a heavy-based saucepan at the time. A bear with a sore head...that's me....and I mean that literally... just the sore head, not the bear ... err..maybe a little bit of bear since I'm having a bad hair day. Oh bother!

Enough whinging, here's the card I made using Tuesday Morning Sketch #169. As you can see, this is not my usual style. I'm having another go at CAS, although I'm pretty sure my friend Sandie will say: "Tut! Tut!  It most definitely isn't CAS!" For the first time I'm using a kraft card-base and this was inspired by Polka Doodles #43 "Christmas Card & Add Kraft". The colours are from The Play Date Café #155 "Mint, Gold & Leather".

The kraft card base measures 5-1/2 x 4-1/4. The patterned paper is from Basic to Basics Vintage Christmas.
The entire central panel is sitting on foam tape. The sentiment is from WMS Say It Loud Winter Holiday, stamped in Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink and Memento Bamboo Leaves. Then I cut it out with Spellbinders Labels 4 and inked the edges with Tim Holtz's Vintage Photo.
I also did some heat embossing with Sticky Fingers Metallic Gold EP.  The lace border is by HOTP  and  dotted circles  all over the card base is from WMS Nutcracker Sweet.
And to finish, some ribbon and 3 pale green blings.
On the inside, I stamped a sentiment from WMS Seasons of Love Tags in Memento Rich Cocoa.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I'm really sorry for not commenting more this week. It's just these headaches make computer work a tad uncomfortable. If you've got any home remedies to ease these wretched headaches caused by sinusitis, please please share!

I've got another blog post scheduled at midnight. (Thank goodness I finally figured out how to schedule posts!). This will be the 3rd Eclectic Ellapu Challenge and the 2nd for the Pink Team. I hope you'll check it out and show us your goodies. Until later, my friends....

Ho! Ho! Ho!

What can I say? It's still raining and my cold is back, this time with drippy nose and a thumping headache. I haven't felt very crafty these past couple of days and worse still, I've gone off cakes! I'm definitely coming down with something...need to closely monitor the situation and get back into the "sweet of things". On that note, I made this card based on the colours of candy canes with a little santa and snow flakes thrown in for some festive effect.

The sketch is from WMSC #120 and the Santa theme is from Holly Jolly Christmas Challenge "Here Comes Santa Claus". Over at  DYSU #95 its all about "Wet or Dry Embossing", "Stitching" is on the menu at Delightful Challenges and the Crafty Ribbons #31 gang is doing "Christmas" . And my card looks like this:

I went for a 5x5 square card. That small bit of paper is a piece of scrap from a Christmas past...
On the bottom half I stamped snowflakes with a stamp from WMS Compliments of the Season. I used VersaColor Silver and heat embossed with holographic silver EP. The HoHoHo is from WMS Nutcracker Sweet.
Santa's hat is cut with a die from Spellbinders Holiday Cheer S4-225. with some shinny stuff on the trim.  With some foam tape I layered the hat on Spellbinders Standard Circles LG  and Classic Scalloped Circles LG.
On the inside, more words from the Nutcracker Sweet set...This card could only come from St Nick!

Supplies:
Spellbinder Dies: Holiday Cheer S4-225; Standard Circles S4-114;  Classic Scalloped Circles S4-124
Stamps: WMS Nutcracker Sweet; WMS Compliments of the Season
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black; VersaColor Silver

That's my card for today. I'm going to have some Lemsip and slap on some Vicks...nothing like some good ol' fashioned meds! Then, I'm going to update my list for Santa to include a decent pair of Wellies.

Stay warm and dry, my friends. Thanks for for popping in and I'll resume my blog rounds later today.

Christmas Teddy

Allo allo! It's Monday again -Mojo time!. Very quickly, I just want to show you my card for this week and then get back to getting some work done... until such time I can retire and employ my very own butler. Still waiting for that Christmas wish to come true!

In the meantime, I've conjured up this fun little number for your viewing pleasure, inspired by these challenges in blogland: MojoMonday #264 ; Christmas Card Challenges 2012 #47 "Bow" ; The Squirrel and The Fox #27 "Ribbon" ; 52 Christmas Card Throwdown Oct Theme "Fairy Lights" ; CSYAL #33 "Traditional Colours" and Totally Papercrafts #139 "Christmas". I made this card for my niece and I think she will appreciate these bright bold colours...I hope!

The papers are from Bo Bunny's "Mistletoe" 6x6 pad.
I confess...I used some foam tape...I had to.
The stamp is from a freebie set that came with a magazine. It doesn't say  from whence it came...and I didn't ask. But if you know the maker of this mystery stamp, pray enlighten us. .. thus spake Shakespeare... Back in the 21st century, little Teddy had his fuzz coloured with SN markers, then I cut and layered him on Spellbinder die-cuts.
And because I'm feeling festive, I threw in some bling and Crystal Stickles.
The sentiment is by Hot Off The Press, stamped  in Memento Rich Cocoa....and we're done!
Supplies:
Spellbinder dies: Labels 16  S4-301; Standard Circles SM  S4-116
Memento inks: Tuxedo Black ; Rich Cocoa
SN Markers: Bear - GB7, GB8, GB9, GB10, EB5, PP1, PP2   Hat - CR7, CR8, CR10, IG1, IG2   Present - DR1, DR3, DR5, GB5, OR1

Thanks for popping in for a visit. Hope you have a pleasant Monday and we'll catch up soon!

Happy B'day, Sailor Boy

Ahoy there, fellow crafters! Just a quick post from me today. But before that, another weather update: it's raining....again! It's wet and cold and yucky and so very eeeky. (The last two adjectives describe how I feel ...) More rain is expected for the next four / quatro / quatre / vier days! I wonder if Noah felt this bummed out by the rain.

The cloudburst card I want to show you today is for a 1 year old boy.  I'm going with the flow and made a nautical themed creation. The sketch is from Tuesday Morning Sketches #168 and I gave it a full 180º turn. Then off to Color Throwdown #214 I went to pick the colours.

And this my card:

When I saw the colour palette I knew it had to be Crate Paper's Toy Box. It just screams "boy"
Since this going by mail, I kept it nice and flat. No pop dots, tape  or high heels.  I used 2 Spellbinder dies on this card: Small Deckled Mega Rectangles to frame the ocean and  Postage Stamp custom dies to frame the image.
This cute little image is from WMS Half Pint Heroes set, stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black. Still practising with my Spectrum Noirs. I used a silver peel-off for the age, which I coloured in with a blue SN pen. Then I tied a yellow ribbon 'round the ol' oak tree.
I scallop cut strips of the blue paper for textural effect.
And here's the inside.

Supplies:
Papers: "Toy Box" 6x6 pad by Crate Paper
Stamp: "Half Pint Heroes" by WaltzingMouse Stamps
Memento Inks: Tuxedo Black;  Rich Cocoa;  Bamboo Leaves
SN pens: Submarine - IG1, IG2, IG4 ; Boy - FS2, FS3 ;  Seaweed - CG2, CG3, CG4 ; Water - BT1, BT2, BT3
Spellbinder dies: Small Deckled Mega Rectangles S5-014; Postage Stamp Custom Dies exclusive to Personal Impressions CP1-004

I'm also hooking up with Annabelle Stamps #90 "A Kid's Card" ;  Chocolate, Coffee & Cards #24 "Stitching" ; Crafter's Companion October Challenge "Birthday" and Crafty Ribbons Challenge #30 "Children's Birthday"

Thanks for swimming by. We're off to church now. Have a blessed Sunday, y'all and I'll catch you tomorrow! And before I forget....I hear that a bunch of super-talented ladies are showcasing some awesome projects over at Eclactic Ellapu. Why don't you go play along...much fun is guaranteed!

O Bendy Christmas Tree...

It has been a rough couple of days... Why? Because it hasn't stopped raining since yesterday morning. Seriously... relentless rain is not good for the soul. The humidity....oh my, don't get me started on that. I craft in our conservatory which is glorious when its dry and sunny but when it rains... the humidity, the steamy windows, the bendy paper and my aching joints  make me want to run for the hills. It's probably chucking it down in the hills too, so why bother, eh?

I'm glad we had this talk, now I can show you my bendy card. On a humid day, the intelligent thing to do is to make a centre-step card. And if you're a genius like me, you'll make the side pillar really thin so that they can bend and bow in graceful splendour. My colours are from 52 Christmas Card Throwdown October Colour challenge and I tried to keep things simple...I really did...

The papers are from BoBunny's "Mistletoe" 6x6 pad.  The card measures  5-1/2" by 4-1/4".
Here's the side profile. You can see it bend and buckle  from this angle. Its not bad , but not ideal . Taking the picture was an ordeal and a half involving precarious balancing of lights, heat tool, hair-dryer and camera.  Arms, shoulders and head were called into action ... and now I have a crick in my neck...ouch!
I layered the patterned papers in brown and used DMC's gold metallic embroidery floss to stitch . The sentiment is from Waltzingmouse Stamps "Say It Loud - Winter" stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. I attached 2 gold brads from Woodware's Christmas collection.
I embossed a piece of cream CS using Cuttlebug's Swiss Dots folder and rubbed Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink pad direct to paper for some colour on the raised dots. The tree is from Waltzingmouse Nutcracker Sweet set, stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black and paper pieced with 2 shades of green CS. The bark and pot are are pieced with 2 shades of brown CS. The star is pieced with cream CS and I applied some Gold Stickles on the star and little hearts in the tree.

On the inside, I made some room for a personalised Christmas message.

I'm also taking this card to 4 Crafty Chicks Challenge #112 "Dry Embossing" and ABC Christmas Challenge "U - Up To You".

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you're feeling warm and toastie and stay dry!
